The present volume contains the biographical sketches of about two hundred most outstanding men and women who shaped the course of Medieval India. Following the other volumes in the series, the present volume is also divided into four sections detailing basic historical perspectives, profiles of eminent personalities, chronology and bibliography. The section on the Basic Historical Perspectives serves as a background to the period in which these personalities flourished. The personalities have been drawn from various fields and include Rulers like Akbar and Shivaji; Warriors like Rana Pratap Singh and Durga Das Rathor; Religious Reformers like Kabir and Nanak; Poets like Tulsidas and Rahim; Artists like Basawan and Mansur and Women Leaders like Raziya and Noorjehan.

Gupta she is co-author in a number of his publications including an Encyclopaedia of History and Culture of Punjab, and biographical studies of Raja Rammohun Roy, Swami Dayaand Saraswati, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. A two-volume study of India since independence critically examines the triumphs and tragedies of Indian people during the last fifty five years. These books brought out in both the languages – English and Hindi – have been widely acclaimed as the harbinger of awareness about the ideals of our freedom struggle.
